Paying for your own care and support
It is important you know all of the options available to you when funding your own care and support. We always recommend independent financial advice to help you make an informed choice.
You would be expected to fully fund your own care and support:
- If you are receiving care in a care home and you have over £23,250 in capital and/or savings
- If you are receiving care and support at home and you have over £23,250 in capital and/or savings.
You have the right to the Council for an assessment, even if you don't think you will qualify for financial support or if you don't want to share your financial details. An assesment can help you understand your own situation and what you need to stay independent.

Care at home
If you need care and support to enable you to remain in your own home but you do not qualify for our financial support, you still have the option to arrange your own care and support. There are a range of local and national organisations that can help you with this.

You also have the option to ask us to arrange your care and support for you. We can only do this if your care needs have been assessed and you are eligible, and there is a charge of £50 per week which covers our administrative costs.

Residential or nursing care
If you think moving to a residential or nursing care home would meet your needs but you do not qualify for our financial support, we still may be able to help.
