Day trips

Although Richmond has a wealth of cultural events, parks and places to visit, you may want to take a short day trip further out and explore beyond the borough.

There are many places you could visit for a day trip which aren't too far away. You could explore one of the beautiful surrounding counties which offer a multitude of things to see and do. Or you could spend a day out closer to home, within the borough. Here are just a few ideas:

Visiting London

Central London is very close and easily accessible. The list of things to do in London is endless. For example you could:

  • Visit an exhibition, art gallery or museum, followed by dinner or theatre in the evening.
  • Explore one of the many fantastic historic buildings, royal palaces or stately homes.
  • Enjoy one of the many festivals, for example international food festivals, arts, music and film festivals, and many more.

Visiting Surrey

This beautiful county is only a short distance away and perfect for a day trip.

  • Surrey is known for its nature and green spaces. Visit the Royal Horticultural Society, beautiful Wisley Gardens and many local farms and countryside walks.
  • Visit one of the charming, historic towns to visit in where you can experience local markets and fairs in spring or summer.
  • Explore some of the fascinating stately homes, castles and cathedrals.

Visiting Sussex

The county of Sussex is also perfect for a day trip, and not far away.

  • Take a walk on the South Downs and ancient royal forests, or see the glorious gardens of the Sussex Weald.
  • Visit the coastal seaside resorts and ports
  • Explore the historic towns and villages and castles
  • Visit the site of the Battle of Hastings
